skribbl.io, reviewed
Draw a word while everyone else guesses it in the chat.

skribbl.io is the browser version of a parlour game. In each turn one player picks a word and draws it on a shared canvas while the others type guesses into the chat. Points go to whoever guesses fastest and to the artist when people get it. Then the pen passes on.
The best way to play is in a private room: you choose the number of rounds, the drawing time and the language, can add your own word list, and share a link with friends. Public rooms are full of strangers, which works, but the chat is not moderated by us and can be rough.
A game of three rounds with a handful of people takes about twenty minutes and produces a surprising amount of laughter, mostly at the drawings. It needs nothing but a browser, so it is a good fit for a video call.
A first sitting
Make a private room, set three rounds and eighty seconds per drawing, and add a custom word list of in-jokes. Draw the big shape first and the details later.
Where to stop
The room ends when the rounds run out. Agree on the number of games at the start, and say goodnight when it is done.
